A Note From the Queen

Dearest Subscriber,

"How You Can Extend Your Life"

One of my dear clients found this study done by UCLA on "Friendship Among Women." She knows of my interest in creating a women's group for exactly the reasons that are in this article.

The test reveals that friendships between women are special. They shape who we are, and who we are yet to be. They soothe our tumultuous inner world, fill the emotional gaps in our marriage, and help us remember who we really are.

Women respond to stress with a cascade of brain chemicals that cause us to make and maintain friendships with other woman. This chemical oxytocin is released in women causing a calming effect. It causes women to buffer the fight or flight response. It encourages her to tend to children and associate with other women instead. Thus, causing women to talk, take care of each other, nurture each other, and bond.

In men, (which most stress studies have been done), when stressed produce adrenaline with causes a fight or flight response. Men do not release the chemical oxytocin during stress because testosterone reduces the effects of oxytocin.

The study also revealed that women who have friends live longer. Women with friends decreased their risk of death. Another study showed that those women who had the most friends over a nine-year period cut their risk of death by more than sixty percent. The study concluded that not having close friends or confidants was as detrimental to a women's health as smoking or carrying extra weight.

When the research looked at how well women functioned after the death of their spouse, they found even during one of the most difficult stresses in their life, women who had close friends survived the experience without any physical impairments or permanent loss of vitality.

In conclusion, with woman being so important to our health and well being, why is it so hard to find time to be with them? We seem to put our friends on the back burner when we get overly busy with work and family. This is a big mistake because women are such a source of strength for each of us. We take care and nurture one another. We need that unpressured space in which we can do the special kind of talk that women do when they are with each other.

I am continually learning how to be a better friend. All the time I have invested has brought me a large dividend on my investment. I appreciate my friends, and I want more!

I wanted to give a special Thank you, to my sweet friend, Melanie. I was making dinner for guests, and I realized that I had forgotten to pick up some wine and dessert. Melanie cheerfully volunteered and drove to the store on Sunday, in pouring down rain. Thank You Melanie!

Classes

"My Brilliant Easy To Do Plan"

This is not a class, It's girlfriends helping each other. I wanted to tell you of my brilliant plan of creating Christmas baskets for our family and friends!

It can be so much work creating one on our own. My plan is for eight or more women to make cookies, jam, ornaments, or whatever creative item you feel will be an addition to our Christmas baskets. We will then get together next month to exchange the items we made, along with the recipe cards, thus creating our glorious Christmas Basket.

Instructions to creating a wonderful Christmas Basket:

1. E-mail me: healthqueen@fountainofhealth.com, so that I can compile a group of women who are interested in this project.
2. In the email, tell me what you are making for the basket.
3. I will inform the group what each girlfriend is making.
4. I will pick a date for our get together.
5. We will exchange what we have made with each other to create our baskets.
6. Any item or cookie you are considering, let it be worthy of Martha Stewart.
7. We will provide our own baskets or container to put our items in.

Feature Article

All Is Not Lost. A SWEETENER THAT IS GOOD FOR YOU.

Last months article was about the mind crippling effects Aspartame, other wise known as: Nutra Sweet, Equal, Sucralose, Splenda, Sunette, Sweet-n-low, saccharin, and Sweet One. These chemicals have an effect in our brains. The chemical isn't eliminated from our brains. It builds up over time and causes many effects in the brain such as: memory loss, Alzheimer's, seizures, strokes, and much more.

All is not lost. There is a sweetener worthy of our health and low-calorie eating. I want to tell you about the good sweetener that is a substitute for Aspartame. The sweetener's name is "STEVIA" It is not anything new. It has been around for thousands of years. It is widely used in Japan, which consumes forty percent of the sweetener market. This American, "no calorie" sweetener company, (Aspartame,) doesn't want you to know about Stevia because they don't want to share the market.

In the mid 1980's Stevia was growing in popularity. During the last part of the 1980's the FDA began seizing Stevia from health food manufactures without adequate explanation. In 1991, the FDA banned the importation of Stevia intended for use in foods. This ban was reportedly at the request of Nutra Sweet, (owned by Monsanto,) which produces the toxic artificial sweetener called Aspartame. With many years of arguing and deliberation, the FDA will now allow Stevia to be imported. However, it has to be clearly marked that it is intended to be used as a dietary supplement. This will tend to permit personal use, but it will keep food manufactures from using Stevia in their products, until they can be secure in their supply for all intended uses.

Stevia's leaves are a native product in Brazil and Paraguay. The extract, stevioside, has been approved for use in foods in Brazil and Japan. The product is used in these countries as a table-top sweetener in virtually all food commodities and as a flavor enhancer. Stevia is three hundred times sweeter than sugar and contributes no calories to the diet. It must be used in extremely small amounts because of it sweetness. A little goes a long way.

You can find Stevia in any health food store. I have used it for years and love It!
