Annual Girl Scout Cookies For Sale

HOW NOW MAD COW?

FISH, IS IT REALLY SAFE?

A Note From the Queen

Dear Subscriber,

Girl Scout Cookies are for sale, on February 20, 2004 at The Fountain of Health. I know they are not healthy, but its for a good cause. Come in and buy lots of boxes, for yourself, friends and family. They freeze well. They are $3.50 a box. Fifty-five cents from each box goes to our troop fund.

In the beginning of the year, I became a Girl Scout troop leader because I wanted to experience Girls Scouts with my daughter. Girl Scouts is a wonderful organization, I didn't appreciate I volunteered. They train all of their leaders, have a wonderful support system, and lots of activities. I took a class to learn how to cook outside, set up a tent by myself, and tie ropes. Next month I become camp certified. I spend a whole weekend in the mountains learning how to camp the Girl Scout way and leave no trace. Then I get to teach the girls all I have learned.

They annually set up the cookie sale for each troop to make their own money. They money is used for going and doing fun activities that the girls have planned, and budgeted for. The girls are taught to take care of recourses and give back to the community and to each other.

Our troop has lots of activities and trips they are working towards. That is why we need you to purchase our cookies and enjoy the sweetness of our gratitude for helping us become strong.

Classes

Our circle of Sisters group has started with a lot of enthusiasm. We are learning some rituals and getting to know each other. The group elected to start by looking at our significant other/Romance part on our wheel of life. The wheel of life is a wheel that looks at the eight areas of our life: Romance, Health, Friends and Family, Health, Personal Growth, Fun and Recreation, Physical Environment, Career, and Money. I will keep you posted. If you want to be part of a woman's group email me at: healthqueen@fountainofhealth.com and I will put you on a separate mailer to keep you posted on upcoming events and happenings.

HOW NOW MAD COW?

When my husband first heard about Mad Cow on the news, he band our family from eating any beef. Me, being of "O" Type blood, I am a meat eater, and very much enjoy my beef. I started my research. This is what I found. The Mad Cow disease is not in the muscle parts of the beef, like the legs, butt, and shoulder. The disease is a neuro-toxic disease, which means it is in the brain and spinal cord. So don't eat the brain or meat next to the spinal cord. Well, that still freaked me out. So I researched organic beef. Good news, there is a farmer who raises pharmaceutical grade beef. He raises his beef for medical purposes. The herd is a closed heard, where by no animals from outside the heard are allowed into the heard. They use only organic grain. They sell this beef to the Sacramento Natural Food Co-op. It is expensive, but if you want safe beef and want to stay sane then this is the place to go.

Some of you may be saying, "Well, I have always wanted to start eating more fish instead of beef." If this is you, please read the next article.

FISH, IS IT SAFE?

In January 2003, the U.S. Center for Disease Control reported that American children had up to twice the level of pesticides as adults. Eating organic limits exposures to pesticides. Fish can also be a major contributor to pesticides and toxic mercury in our body.

Because mercury is stored in our bodies fat, just as it is stored in the fish's fat. It is best to take all the fat off of the fish. Then grill, bake, or broil the fish. Don't fry the fish because the toxins will stay in the fat.

The fish to watch out for are farmed Salmon. ( I know! I really liked the farmed Salmon.) These Salmon are raised in plastic tanks, the water then absorbs the dioxins from the plastic and the Salmon absorb those toxins into their meat and fat. Some other toxic fish are: shark, swordfish, king mackerel, tuna and tilefish. Tuna steak and canned albacore, (white tuna), generally contain up to three times more mercury than canned light tuna because the oil they pack it in contains the toxins. It is recommended that you only eat one tuna sandwich per month.

Fish that are low in mercury include: Wild Alaskan salmon, (which can be bought fresh May through September, you can freeze it for later consumption) sardines, squid, Arctic char, flounder, sand dabs, and scallops

The Health Queen and Girlfriends Recommend

My husband and I just got back from a marriage enhancement weekend workshop. The reason I wanted to go was to better communicate with Tye. As you know we are expanding our shop and adding 1200 more square feet. We are putting in a spa downstairs. I am excited. I love taking loving care of our clients, and being able to do that better is awesome.
I was not looking forward to arguing about the whole creating and planning process. Matter of fact. I was dreading it. But I wanted the spa. So I realized I needed to learn how to communicate better.
I can't believe I didn't do this years ago. Maybe I didn't want it bad enough, or think things needed to change.
During the marriage enhancement weekend we learned how to dialog. I didn't realize I was slightly mad at my husband a lot of the time. I am the type of person that when mad I will go find something else to do to bring me happiness. I will read, cook, watch T.V., or eat. Now that we are able to talk, I want to spend more time with him. I am realizing things that need to be worked on in our relationship. Before, I just ignored them because the good out-weighed the bad. I am now looking forward to our talking. We are hearing each other. It's a wonderful feeling being heard by someone you love.
The book that was recommended is: "Conscious Loving, The Journey To Co-Commitment, A Way To Be Fully Together Without Giving Up Yourself"" by; Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks, Ph.D. The group that created the weekend was: Association for Couples in Marriage Enhancement. ACME. A client and friend told me about it. I can't thank her enough.
