THERE'S GOLD IN THEM THERE SEEDS
Hidden within the tiny seed of the Golden Flax plant is a compound called "lignan" or SDG, which is found primarily in the thin hull of the Golden flax seed. The awareness of the lignans in our diet is changing modern day diseases in our society.
I know most of you have heard about flax seed oil, which is a good source of essential fatty acids. The reason it is called an essential fatty acid is because the body does not make it, we therefore must consume it. While most of the attention surrounding flax seeds has been its' source of essential fatty acids, recent studies and research has revealed that the substance called "lignan" within flaxseed may surpass flax oil in its' health benefits.
What are Lignans
Lignans are a group of phytonutrient, plant nutrients, which are found in seeds, grains and vegetables. Flax seed is, by far, nature's richest source of plant lignans. Other sources of lignans such as rye, buckwheat, millet, Soya, and barley, contain two to six micrograms of lignans per gram of grain. Flax seeds yield eight hundred lignans per microgram. While essential fatty acids are in the oil of the flax seed, the lignans are in the fiber of the hull of the seed. The oil has little or no lignans.
When we consume the ground flaxseeds, the colon's good bacteria breaks down the undigested carbohydrates, which is fiber, separating the lignans from the hulls of the seed. When the lignans are broken down then able to be absorbed in the blood stream. These lignans are like fiber for the blood, cleaning out free radicals, which cause disease and cancer in the body.
Research has shown that people who have high amounts of lignans in their system have notably lower cancer rates. These lignan compounds have shown such extraordinary potential that they have been studied by the National Cancer Institute for their cancer preventative properties. The SDG lignan not only has anti-cancer properties, it also has anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties. It is a potent antioxidant and has also been shown to enhance immune system functioning.
Since 1995 several health products have come into the marketplace with the word "lignan" on the label. "Such as lignan flax seed oil." When these products were tested, they were found to contain practically no lignans at all. That is because no lignans are in the oil. Lignans were added to the oil and because lignans are heaver than oil, they settle to the bottom of the container. There are many health companies that are going to try and capitalize on the name "lignan". I don't want you to be fooled.
The best and easiest way not to be fooled, is to simply purchase the organic golden flax seed. The reason I suggest golden flax is because it has more lignans than brown flax seeds.
Directions: Take two tablespoons of golden flax seeds and grind it in a coffee grinder. This will make about a quarter cup of flax meal. Mix the flax meal with yogurt, apple sauce, blend it in a drink, mash it up with a banana, cottage cheese, or sprinkle on a salad. It is recommended that you consume this mixture two to four times a week.
Clean out Free Radicals
The normal antioxidants, such as vitamins A, C, and E are not able to keep up with the increasing of free radicals that are being created in the body. Free radicals are increased because of foods fried in toxic chemical oils, chemical preservatives, and exposure to radiation, drugs, alcohol, pollutants, and chemicals, not drinking enough water, and not having two to three regular bowel movements per day. The balance between your intake of antioxidants and exposure to free radicals may literally be the balance between health and disease.
Breasts
Lignans are classified as phytoestrogens, which means when they are in the blood stream, they hook onto same spots (receptors) on the cells where estrogen attaches. Lignans reduce the over-abundance of estrogens in the body. This can help prevent breast and uterine cancer, which depend on estrogen to start and develop. We get inundated with estrogen on a daily basis. They feed estrogen to livestock so they will gain weight faster, thus allowing them to be killed at a younger age. Estrogen helps cows produce more milk and chickens to lay more eggs. Estrogen is in chicken, meat, milk, cheese, and ice cream. It is also in plastics that leak into our food and in the pollution in the air we breathe.
Colon
Colon cancer is the number two leading cause of death among Americans. There are various factors that put people at risk for colon cancer: lack of dietary fiber, calcium, and a build up of toxins in the colon, continued constipation and/or diarrhea, polyps, and a high fat diet. Flaxseeds are particularly effective in combating colon cancer carcinogens. They provide twelve grams of fiber per quarter cup and have a soothing and slippery effect, aiding the colon in elimination.
Diabetes
Diabetes is currently the ninth leading cause of death in America. We are eating too many foods that are void of fiber. The lignans from flaxseeds in the blood stream aid in lowering insulin.
Heart Disease
It is well known that flax oil fights heart disease by lowering dangerous LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, and reducing the build up of atherosclerotic plaque on artery walls. But now, evidence is revealing that lignans, in a concentrated form, has an equal or greater effect in fighting heart disease, because, like I said, it is like having fiber in the blood attaching it self to cholesterol, free radicals, and all sorts of stuff that doesn't belong in the blood.
Kidney Disorders
The kidneys are the major regulators of the water, electrolyte, and acid-base (ph) content of the blood and, indirectly, all body fluids. Kidney disease is often the result of damage done by exposure to certain drugs, toxins, heavy metals, solvents, poisons or pesticides. Impaired kidney function can also result from other disorders, such as diabetes, lupus, hypertension and liver disease. When kidneys are being taxed, the existence of protein in the urine is a sign of renal disease. Taking flaxseed lignans can help inhibit, retard and reverse renal disease.
Prostate Cancer
Cancer of the prostate gland is the second leading cause of death among men. It is a disease that primarily occurs in men over sixty years old. By the age of eighty, eighty percent of all men have prostate cancer to some degree. Prostate cancer is a slow growing cancer, doubling in mass every six years. Part of the reason is due to high, unhealthy, fat diets and exposure to chemicals. The prostate is just under the rectum of the colon, and I believe because of a low fiber diet, the colon is not completely being evacuated. Meaning fecal matter is staying in the rectum. Over time, the fecal matter can start leaking down into the prostate causing the prostate to be toxic. Taking thirty to forty grams of fiber daily, and colonics, to hydrate the colon on a regular basis, helps the colon remove all the waste out of the body and keep the rectum clean. Lignans from flaxseeds will help to clean the colon and blood of the toxins.
Lignan Dosage & Safety
Flax seeds are a natural food source. It is a safe and natural means to prevent or combat a host of health problems or disease conditions.
Studies have shown that taking one quarter cup of ground flax seeds don't interfere with vitamin and mineral consumption. Studies also show A 30% increase Bowel movements per week.
Flax seeds and their lignans, like other natural and herbal supplements, require proper diet, exercise, and lifestyle habits to be the most effective.

Pass the Beans Please
You Always Order a Salad. The word "salad" makes people think they are always eating something healthy. The truth is a lot of take out salads are basically burgers in a bowl. Most salads are high in saturated fat, which should only be two percent of your diet. Many fast food salads contain very little fiber, because they hardly contain any vegetables or beans.
McDonald's Crispy Chicken Bacon Ranch Salad with Newman's Own Ranch Dressing has more calories, fat, and saturated fat than a Big Mac--640 calories and 49 g of fat versus 600 calories and 33 g of fat. Other fast-food salads are almost as dismal.
Unfortunately, very few salads rely on beans (chickpeas, kidney beans, black beans) as a healthy source of protein. Women need thirty to forty grams of fiber a day.
Don't scratch take-out salad off your menu, just apply a few common sense rules before you order. For instance, avoid high-fat add-ons such as: sour cream, extra cheese, croutons, bacon bits, and high-fat dressings, including Caesar and ranch. Opt for salads that aren't just a fiber-free mound of iceberg lettuce dotted with a few carrots and red cabbage shavings. Ask for low-calorie and fat-free dressing. Ask for cabbage and or romaine lettuce and bring a can of beans. Grocery stores have a half of cup of beans with a flip top that can add up to eleven grams of fiber to your meal. You can turn that salad into a low-fat, high fiber satisfying meal.
