A Note From the Queen

Today is my Mom's Birthday. Happy Birthday Mom!

My youngest son, Cory, turned 18 at the end of September. I can't believe my baby is an adult now. It is kind of tough letting go. He is now driving and has a new college girlfriend.

The class I taught last month on digestion and nutrition did very well. I will be incorporating the classes every month now. I feel everyone learned a lot and has more knowledge about their health. I received a lot of good feedback.

The nutritional consultation is going great too. Clients are learning so much about their health, food choices, and doing the 40-30-30 food intake. I love seeing them improve within just one week of eating good food and following nutrition guidelines.

When I first came in to see Dawn my eyes were puffy and I had little energy. I didn't think anything could help I just attributed it to getting older. After just one visit Dawn got me feeling so much better. She worked on my adrenals, digestion and eating. I have more energy, I went on a 12 mile bike ride and my bloating is gone. I want to put a little bee in your bonnet. I have decided it is time to start doing cleanses. We are starting our pilot program cleanse in January. It's a 3 week cleanse, there will be more information coming in a future newsletter.

Hi Everyone,
Happy Fall! I can hardly believe this year is in it's last quarter. Where does the time go? I have really been enjoying my time at The Fountain of Health and meeting all of you clients, I understand why Dawn really loves her work, its like going to a fun party everyday.

I have Lot's of projects underway, like reorganizing the front desk area, rearranging the back facial room, making salad dressings for our salad dressing class, learning Nutritional Response Testing so, I can be a Dawn clone.

I am so impressed with the results that clients as well as myself and children are getting from whole food nutrition. It just seems like the next natural step in my progression towards learning and growth.

We Should Pay Attention to the Canary in the Kitchen

If fumes from nonstick pans kill birds, what are they doing to us?

In just two or three minutes of preheating, your pan will give off fumes that will make you sick. Teflon coated and other nonstick cookware breaks apart and emits a toxic chemical called perfluoroocanoic acid, or PFOA.

Studies have shown that PFOA is present at low levels in 9 out of 10 Americans, and in the blood of most newborns. In one study, of 600 children tested, 96 percent had PFOA in their blood. Animal studies strongly suggest that when enough PFOA builds up in the body, it can cause cancer, liver damage, growth defects and immune damage.

For 50 years, DuPont the manufacturer of Teflon, has said that it's coatings do not emit hazardous chemicals through normal use. But recent DuPont studies, show that at high temperatures (more than 500 degrees F) Teflon and others release at least 6 toxic gases, including 2 carcinogens, 2 global pollutants and MFA (monofluoroacetic acid), a chemical lethal to humans at low doses. At temperatures that DuPont scientists say are reached on stovetop drip pans, nonstick coatings breakdown to a chemical-warfare agent known as PFIB, and a chemical analog of the World War II nerve gas phosgene. The environmental group warns that the coatings break down at a much lower temperature, just 325 degrees F or a medium flame.

Avian veterinarians have known for decades that Teflon off-gases are a leading cause of death among birds, and estimated that hundreds, perhaps thousands of birds are killed each year.
Like the canaries that were used in the coal mines, birds act as an early warning system for humans. The EPA recommends that bird owners avoid cookware and heated appliances with nonstick coatings completely. Perhaps everyone should be heeding this warning.

While you can choose whether or not to use Teflon pans, there is no way for you to tell if food containers and packaging contain PFOA. In one frightening example, the Food and Drug Administration has looked at microwavable popcorn packaging and found that PFOA is not only present but also that it gets into the oil from the packaging during the cooking process.

You may want to microwave your popcorn in a brown paper bag instead. DuPont also makes Teflon silicone lubricant aerosol spray used to waterproof, protect and preserve rubber, plastic, vinyl, leather metal and wood. One can only imagine how those particles are ending up in our lungs.

Try switching to Stainless Steel, most chefs agree it browns food better. Cast Iron is another great alternative to nonstick.

After using a little more butter or oil than we have become accustomed to, you can turn out a fantastic omelet.

Mixing
Dried materials are measured and mixed with the utmost precision. Because of the variability in sources of natural and organic ingredients, color and odor may vary from batch to batch. However, the basic formula remains constant, and quality is ensured by repeat testing.

Binding
Only natural binding ingredients, such as honey and Arabic gum, are used in their tablet manufacturing process. Cellulose is often used to give body to the powders. Calcium stearate, derived from vegetable sources, is used as a lubricant in their tablet machines. No artificial flavoring is ever used.

Tablets, Capsules, and Powders
Their whole food supplements are offered in several forms of delivery. The three most common are tablets, capsules, and powders.

Packaging
The final product is sealed in amber glass bottles. The color of the glass helps protect the food's nutrients from damaging light, while the sealed bottle helps prevent product oxidation. Induction lids and bottleneck seals protect against product tampering. The bottled product is then labeled and packaged in cardboard boxes for easy storage, protection, and shipping.

Recipes For Your Health

Eve's Spaghetti without Noodles

Make your favorite Sauce, I like to use a good quality bottled in which I add browned ground turkey, onions and any veggies you might like. While you are getting this together split a spaghetti squash in half. Using a sharp metal spoon, dig out the seeds. Get a large pan or pot with about an inch of water going. When you have finished seeding the squash, sprinkle generously with sea salt and fresh ground pepper. Turn the squash over (face down) onto the water. Cover, bring up to a boil then simmer for about 45 minutes or until VERY tender.

Getting ready to plate...

Using the tines of a fork scratch out the insides of the spaghetti squash. Place the contents in a serving bowl. Alternately sprinkle on sauce and fresh Parmesan cheese. YUMMY!

If you still want noodles, just use half the normal amount of whole wheat noodles. This is one way I can get the kids to eat vegetables and they don't even know.
